There are two Christmas speeches I consider absolutely marvelous. One is Linus's monologue during the Christmas pagent in 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'. The other is the sermon at the end of one of my favorite holiday films - 'The Bishops Wife'. It is simple, direct - and speaks to the intent of the season. Now - I don't have any particular religion. I've always found churches get in the way of any conversations I might want to have with God. But this simple speech, despite its particular Christian underpinnings, is truly universal in its sentiment.
"Tonight I want to tell you the story of an empty stocking. Once upon a midnight clear there was a child’s cry. A blazing star hung over a stable, and wise men came with birthday gifts. We haven’t forgotten that night down the centuries. We celebrate it with stars on Christmas trees, with the sound of bells and with gifts - but especially with gifts. You give me a book, I give you a tie - Aunt Martha has always wanted an orange squeezer; and Uncle Henry could do with a new pipe. Oh – we forget nobody – adult or child. All the stockings are filled – all that is except one; and we have even forgotten to hang it up. The stocking for the child born in a manger. It’s his birthday we’re celebrating – don’t let us ever forget that. Let us ask ourselves what he would ask for most; and then let each put in his share. Loving kindness, warm hearts and the stretched out hand of tolerance. All the shining gifts that make peace on earth."
Amen to that.
Amen

Lovely, lovely story and if I thought we would get that through faith, I would be the first onboard.

FLS,
That is so beautiful and so is your tree. I love them both.
Also, you have great taste in picking colors for your walls. I love that green with your ceramic floor.
