I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Marvelous news! I was just thinking recently about asking my adult children if they would prefer calling me by my first name as the term Mom or Mother is a position of power and I want them to feel empowered on their own. So the M.O.M title has a power of it's own. Well done, FLS. Well done, indeed.

Missouri Mule

Congratulations! I'm thrilled for you!

Here's a tip: "If you happen to own a business, need to run a campaign, need a manager, you want somebody with a lot of experience so that you won't have to do the job for them or have to hire a couple of assistants to help out. Go find yourself a M.O.M. Better yet, a single M.O.M with a houseful of kids. She can run anything without even thinking about it.....what's one more thing to her? Why anybody would hire a married man to run anything is beyond me. :)

I'm with Missouri Mule. Yep, hire a MOM. MOM's can multitask without breaking a sweat. MOM's can negotiate better than any diplomat. MOM's can put any mess in order. MOM's keep peace in the household. MOM's are compassionate. MOM's are the life-givers.

and I am so excited for you, FLS!

Wow, you go girl! :-) Wishing you both, and ALL women involved, the very best of success!

Wooo Hooo,

or should I save that for when you win! What a great cause for you to take up. I think you'll do a wonderful job, and be a great help for her. MOMs to the rescue!

(These guys have been in charge for 3000 years now, and all we've seen is war, slavery and destruction! Build it up, knock it down. Guys like explosions way too much. It's long past time for a change.)

How about -- Martyers of Mahyem -- Sign this M.O.M. up ASAP!!!!

It's funny FLS, but the past few weeks, I've been storming the B.O.E., the P.D. and a few congress critters on various "urgent issues" facing our society today. When asked for my name, rank and serial number, I reply with "I'm just a MOM". EVERYONE replies back with "oh give yourself more credit -- a MOM is the most important person around" and I reply "OK THEN -- STFU AND DO WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO!!!!"

GO GET 'EM G.F.!!!

You've inspired me FL -- screw the job search -- this MOM here should do something similar. Thank you......

oh shit I can't spell - that should read:

Martyrs Of Mahyem

Hey - I just thought of something - Is Kelley familiar with “The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community" by David Korten

here's the link:

"This site was developed in response to David Korten’s new book “The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community.” The intention is to provide encouragement and resources for individuals and communities engaged in the work of the Great Turning."

some quotes:

Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations
—The Earth Charter (2000)

Future generations, if there is a livable world for them, will look back at the epochal transition we are making to a life-sustaining society. And they may well call this the time of the Great Turning.

All societies are patterned on either a dominator model—in which human hierarchies are ultimately backed up by force or the threat of force—or a partnership model, with variations in between.

they are having "A Leadership Gathering" on March 30-April 1st, in Columbus, OHIO

just a thought.....

The Great Turning

We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.

-The Earth Charter (2000)

I live one state away - darn the luck. But you have my support. I will be your cheerleader. Let me know how I can help.

Kelley Bell

Thanks for the heads up on Korten. I will be at the Leadership Gathering. It's on my schedule now!

Keep those tips coming folks!!!!

I am so proud of you both. My agency has spent the entire week trying to persuade our state legislature that offering the death penalty for serial child molesters will not reduce the crime, but may increase the risk of the offender kiling hte child to get rid of the evidence. A woman's place is in the House....and in the Senate!

What spirit, firey courage and wonder! You inspire us

Fat Lady Sings, now you see, there is no time for looking out into the "world " and seeing and feeling bad. Your focus and energy toward a vision of love and understanding and truth and high ideals will change the world ---it already is. Your clear intent is inspiring and you are perfect for the task. Run the good race and all is well.

I'm all for you and Kelley.

You gals are great!!!

~Shaking the Tree~

Anything you need just ask, we will be there for you.

O spindling reason, close thy soiled and gruesome jaw’s
Surging rationale like a thimble of water to thirst;
We’ve no blood left to drip our cheerless dreams!

Dreadful is our cresting obsession with greed,
Horrible is our pale service to the lords of death
And monstrous our empire’s approaching fury!

The waters flow with the slake of our wickedness
And these vile works speed the thunderous fortunes
Of the sacred beasts come to change what we would not...

O why can’t we see that our indifference to rigid awe
Has the world’s doorways strangled with skeletons
And unearthed the creatures quivering wings?

Like a mother in the shadow of night we can, if we choose,
Erect a grand temple from out of our bosomed courage
And quell this; our trembling loam of mounting death!

Bring forth your kinship with the frayed cloth of man
And rise up in great hordes to defeat the thugs of mayhem
And spring eternal the gates to the shrine of hope…

Life in the Pumpkin Shell

I'm so proud of you two!

And feeling guilty for not stopping by more regularly.
I've had my own issues going on. Let me know if you want to hear a long rant from a Stay-at-home-mother's perspective, with a child misdiagnosed with Autism...
Truly inspirational, and I wish you all the best.
If Blogher doesn't get back with you, I think our circle is planning a Chicago meet-up. I know you'll be busy, but we'd love to see you anyhow!
