I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Great post! Here too---a fan of Victorian lit. and a child grown on reading about Wolf and Sherlock's strangeness. "He spends an inordinate amount of time itemizing and then dwelling on each (to distraction)" We can thank masters like Proust for the cataloguing of extential minutae. No one ever has matched him, although Henry James gave a good go at it.

You mentioned England FLS, so the following isn't that far off topic:
"Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.
"The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth. And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist."

Check it all out at
Jelly brain nation: Poll shows quarter of Brits think Churchill was myth.
I know it staggers credulity but from the evidence it seems that TommyBrit could very well be dumber than JoeYank.
