I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Aw yes this was sad to hear. I love this guy!

The Fat Lady Sings

No matter what Roy Schieder did - he was fabulous in it. Naked Lunch stands out for me. It's disturbing, often frightening - drawing you into Burroughs world of addiction. I'd thought it impossible to film that book (its almost impossible to read). Scheider's performance, as well as that of the other fabulous actors, made the impossible work. I am very sad Schieder passed. 75 is too damn young.

Watching 2010 now. And just wanted to add that Roy died of a type of blood cancer, not skin cancer. He died of multiple myeloma a blood cancer vs melanoma, a skin cancer. I actually know someone who has been battling myeloma for a couple of years, from their exposure to depleted uranium shells in Iraq.

Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about your friend. I was a real fan of Mr. Schieder. We keep losing so many of my favorite actors. This year alone - Andy Griffith, Ernest Borgnine, Celeste Holm. So sad.
