I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

OMG I should have been watching that show. WOW!

I used to dance too. Now I'm lucky I can walk.

Oh I can see if you were a dancer how much these would move you, and make you miss it. I enjoyed watching these honey, thank you!

Sending hugs and healing, always....

Hiya TFLS! (diane w)

I am so glad asqv pointed me to your blog, so I can read you again.

You are one of the few I went back to read, and now I can see you here!

Anytime you want to cross at wwl, you are more than welcomed, but if you aren't comfortable with that, I understand too!

I certainly will be here more, and I blog rolled you!

The Fat Lady Sings

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the support. Have any of you watched the show? I think it's rather wonderful, actually. And yes - I am definitely smitten by and with Mark Kanemura. I've read a few interviews with his mother. Her hubby took a powder more than ten years ago - leaving her broke with 4 kids. And look what she raised! All her children came out just fine. I know I write a lot about my past - how I grew up. If I'd had 1/10 the support that woman gave her son....

I talked about this with my best friend Amy – the difference it makes to have someone in your corner. Her niece is a bit of a savant - at 4 she can play any tune at the piano after hearing it only once (my father was blessed with that singular talent). Of course she’s being encouraged. I cannot wait to see how that child develops. Madonna in the making (or Prince). Point being – all it takes is support and encouragement. Mark Kanemura can thank his Mom and his Dance teacher for always being there when he needed them.

Wow, now that is dancing. So many different types of songs and range of emotional expression. Wow. Gonna have to catch that show, wonder if they show it on

Peter of Lone Tree

Dance, ballerina, dance
And do your pirouette in rhythm with your achin' heart.
Dance, ballerina, dance
You mustn't once forget a dancer has to dance the part.

Whirl, ballerina, whirl
And just ignore the chair that's empty in the second row.
This is your moment, girl,
Although he's not out there applauding as you steal the show.

Once you said his love must wait its turn
You wanted fame instead.
I guess that's your concern,
We live and learn.

And love is gone, ballerina, gone
So on with your career, you can't afford a backward glance.
Dance on and on and on
A thousand people here have come to see the show
As 'round and 'round you go
So ballerina, dance
Dance, dance! -- (Bob Russell, Carl Sigman)

I hope you're feeling better. I love belly-dancing, and I can line-dance and dance to hip-hop, but no way in hell have I ever moved like those kids, not even at my very healthiest and fittest. It's joyful to watch, though, isn't it?

I know the dancer you're talking about--Will. He's good and all, but I felt so awful for Jessica, the girl he was partnerned with for most of it. "Will, you were wonderful! You are the Second Coming! Now, Jessica, you didn't suck too badly in comparison to him, but here are the many things you did wrong..."

I touched on it just a little bit in my current blog entry. L'Ailee loves the show. The dancers really remind me of her--creative, hyperactive, not really vocal.

My very favorite's Twitch. And I have a soft spot for Comfort, but I can see where she's a bit outclassed.

The Fat Lady Sings

I felt very sorry for Jessica. And she can thank Will for those busted ribs. It happened when he dropped her hard during their disco number (a tragedy that almost repeated itself last night when Joshua fell out of one of those lifts).

And speaking of last night – what did you think of that ‘Psycho ex-girlfriend’ contemporary number? I was really bothered by the abusive nature of the piece. Mia had better get over her real life break-up soon, or every dancer left is likely to mutiny. I’d have refused to do it, frankly.

My wife and I used to dance
we can no longer do it
we miss it too

I also love watching Mark, and am so glad others feel about his dancing the way I see and feel.

Thank you so much for yor heartfelt eloquence.

This design is spectacular! You definitely know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost...HaHa!) Fantastic job. I rally enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

I'm not sure why but this blog is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I'll check back later and see if the problem still exists.
