I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Amen to that! Are any of us (western countries) in any better position since then? I can't believe it's been 7 years already, the world will never forget...

The Fat Lady Sings

I don't like what McCain and Palin have to say about 9/11 in general. They seem to want to shift us away from it entirely (except when using it as a political football). According to them, Russia has made a comeback as our national boogeyman. That's who we need to go to war with.

Me - I'd like to get Bin Laden first (and last) - to close the book on 9/11 once and for all. Let's erect a monument to those who died, make 9/11 a national day of remembrance. Maybe our next president will see how important it is we do something as a country, all of us united. This year, Bush hardly even acknowledged the date (I guess it didn't matter without an election for him to win). He sent his press secretary Dana Perino out to obfuscate, however; claiming Bin Laden wasn’t really the one responsible – revisionist history at it’s worst.

I mean - that’s like saying the Japanese really didn’t bomb Pearl Harbor. It was the Russians needing oil to fuel their disagreement with Hitler. (What do you bet, now that I’ve said that, some yahoo will start an internet rumor!).
