I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Fat Lady.....I'm one of your fans....I think you're a fantastic writer....

I'm truly sorry for your pain. Just know that there are those of us out here in the bloggestfere (sp)....that think good thoughts for you!!

Oh honey, I wish there was something I could do to help you! It's so frustrating knowing I can't......

Are there any strong herbal remedies that you could try? Especially if it is something you could grow on your own?

Rain

My friend

Sending positive healing vibes your way and including you in my prayers.

Fat Lady,

You sing the overture too soon. Why do you resist pain management? Fear of zombification? Fear of DRUGS!!!(?)

As someone who's been living with chronic pain (and all the things they do to counter it these days), let me tell you of my own experience. Without medical intervention, I'm much the same as you--I can't think straight, can't play with my kids, etc. The knife of pain cuts me down but good.

Not being a complete idiot, however, I do not turn my back on medicine; as a result, I can think straight and I do play with my kids, etc. True, I'm still in a lot of pain--I can't work, there are very bad days, etc--but I do have something of a life.

Why the hairshirt, Lady?

Btw, if you do give in to the evils of DRUGS!!!, try an opiate/cannabis symbiont: its pain-to-clear-headedness ratio is the highest. (All puns intended.)

Been there, been that, and I GET it. ALL of it. And it SUX. Pain meds only help you care less about the pain, they certainly do NOT "kill" the pain. For me, it's the exhaustion...the sheer, total, brain deadening exhaustion that swells my hopelessness. I have blissfully found a regimen of drugs and lifestyle that have helped me go from waiting to die to maybe I really CAN go on a trip somewhere again someday. And that's HUGE. Wish I had some advice or answers that would help, but I really don't. Oh sure, I can recommend some books that helped me overcome the depression, or I could suggest approaches to managing the pain that you may or may not have tried, but I know how both of those well-intentioned snippets are simply more exhausting input, so instead I'll just say "you're not alone."
