I Protest!!! Vigorously!!!!

  • Pink captures President Bush's callous disregard with heart-rending accuracy. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Jackson Brown's new song is fabulous! Lives in the Balance truly touches on the choices facing America today.
  • An Arlo Guthrie classic! You'd be amazed at how it fits our modern war ethics.
  • Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
  • By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
  • This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
  • Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
  • By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
  • From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

Els

Spirit sisters of the same wistful generation, indeed it seems we are. A product of our mutual Time, perhaps? Or of parents with memories of listening to jazz in Harlem? Or of sitting in that same chair on different coasts, your red hair and my blond catching in the broken pieces, each of us holding court as some modern version of Scarlett O'Hara. We ARE the strange brew they warned us about...

The Fat Lady Sings

I grew up in and around the S.F. Bay area (lived in San Jose). So my memories come wrapped in artichoke scented fog. I never thought I'd miss that time and place - but I do. Perhaps it's because my life today is a far cry from what I wished it to be. I live more often in memory than reality. Perhaps that's why I write. My mind becomes greater than my body (which has betrayed me utterly).

Anyway....thanks for the connection. It's nice to know there are others left like me in our world.
